Crisis Overview
Heavy monsoon rains, since June, have triggered flooding and landslides in both western and eastern India. Since 26 July, rains have worsened, flooding parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan states in the west. The landfall of Cyclone Storm “Komen” on 30 July have aggravated situation in West Bengal, Odisha, Manipur and Mizoram states in the east. As of 4 August, at least 204 deaths have been reported across the states (ActAlliance, 04/08/2015). 10 million people are affected, including more than 1.2 million people displaced with the vast majority remaining in relief camps (CNN, 04/08/2015). More rains are forecast for the next days country-wide (ActAlliance, 04/08/2015).
