Country: Central African Republic
The Central African Republic (CAR) is a landlocked country bordered by Chad to the north, Sudan to the northeast, South Sudan to the east, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo to the south, and Cameroon to the West. It has a landmass of 623,000km2 . The country is on an undulating plateau. In the northwest, the high granite plateau is related to the Adamawa Plateau of Cameroon. In the northeast, the Bongos Range extends into Sudan. The Chari River originates in the northern third of the country. The waterways in the rest of the country run into the Ubangi River, on the southern border with Congo and DRC. CAR is divided into 16 prefectures and one commune, Bangui (UNPAN 11/2004).
The prefectures are divided into 71 subprefectures.
